India-Pakistan Conflict Escalates Following Kashmir Attack

Tensions between India and Pakistan have sharply escalated following a deadly attack on April 22, 2025, in Pahalgam, Indian-administered Kashmir, where 26 tourists were killed. India attributed the attack to the militant group Kashmir Resistance, which it alleges is backed by Pakistan. In response, India downgraded diplomatic relations, closed its border with Pakistan, suspended a crucial water-sharing treaty, and initiated military actions

On May 7, India launched “Operation Sindoor,” targeting what it described as terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan. The operation involved missile strikes by Indian Air Force jets on multiple locations, including Bahawalpur, Muridke, and Muzaffarabad. India claimed the strikes killed at least 100 militants

Pakistan condemned the attacks, asserting that Indian missiles targeted civilian areas and resulted in 31 civilian deaths. In retaliation, Pakistan initiated “Operation Bunyan al-Marsus” on May 10, conducting strikes on several Indian cities, including New Delhi. This marks a significant escalation, with both nations engaging in direct military confrontations.

The international community has expressed concern over the escalating conflict. The G7 nations have called for restraint, and there is growing apprehension about the potential for a broader regional crisis.
