Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has announced a major restructuring of the company’s artificial intelligence (AI) group, unveiling bold plans to develop AI “superintelligence”—systems capable of performing tasks as well as, or even better than, humans.
The restructuring includes forming a specialized team of top AI researchers and engineers focused on long-term breakthroughs in artificial general intelligence (AGI). According to Zuckerberg, this marks Meta’s strongest commitment yet to leading in the future of AI.
“We’re working to build AI that’s not just smart, but truly intelligent—able to think, reason, and solve problems like a human, or beyond,” he stated.
The move places Meta in direct competition with other AI leaders like OpenAI and Google DeepMind, as the race toward superintelligence intensifies.
