Mahama Announces July 1 Launch Date for 24-Hour Economy Policy

Tema and Takoradi Ports to Operate Around the Clock

Former President John Dramani Mahama has announced that his flagship 24-Hour Economy policy will take effect starting July 1, 2025, should he return to office after the upcoming general elections.

Speaking at a campaign event, Mahama stated that the Tema and Takoradi Ports will be the first to be declared 24-hour operational centers. According to him, this move aims to improve productivity, reduce congestion, and create more employment opportunities, particularly in logistics, transportation, and support services.

“The 24-hour economy is not just a slogan—it’s a strategic shift in how Ghana works,” Mahama emphasized. “We will unlock the full potential of key sectors, starting with the ports.”

The announcement marks a significant step in Mahama’s broader economic agenda, which focuses on reviving industrial growth and positioning Ghana as a competitive hub for regional trade.
